Josu Sarriegi Zumarraga (born 19 January 1979 in Lazkao, Gipuzkoa) is a Spanish footballer who plays for Panathinaikos FC in the Greek first division, as a central defender.
After having first appeared professionally with modest Basque teams, Sarriegi joined Deportivo Alavés in 1999, making his first team debuts on 18 February 2001, in a 1–0 win at CA Osasuna.
After a loan with neighbours SD Eibar in the second division, he played 28 games in 2004–05, as Alavés returned to the top level after two years of absence. In the following season, he was first-choice, but the team was relegated again.
Having missed only two games with another Basque side, Athletic de Bilbao, in 2006–07, Sarriegi joined Greece's Panathinaikos FC in August 2007. On November 26, 2008, he scored the winning goal for the Athens side as it defeated F.C. Internazionale Milano 1–0 at the San Siro, in a UEFA Champions League group stage match.[1]
On 9 July 2010, after appearing regularly during three years, the 31-year old extended his contract for a further two seasons.[2] The following year, after the departures of Djibril Cissé and Gilberto Silva, he was voted by his teammates as the new captain.
